Method and Installation | Finishes/Care Considerations |
Famed, behind glass. | Any base material, varnish is not recommended. UV-blocking and anti-glare glass is recommended, as well as placement out of direct sunlight. |
Mounted on a framed panel, without glass, in a clean and dry room, or applied to a low scuff surface on furniture such as the interior of a cabinet, bookcase, or secretary desk. | Any base material, coating optional. Casein and beeswax matte varnish is the optimal finish if increased durability is desired. |
Mounted on a framed panel or hung on a wall with wallpaper paste in a clean and dry room. | Any base material, casein and beeswax matte varnish is recommended if it does not interfere with the artwork finish. Plant-based varnish in low-gloss is optional for additional protection if required. |
Mounted on a framed panel or hung on a wall with wallpaper paste in a dry, high traffic area or where children are expected to frequent. | Any base material, casein and beeswax matte varnish or plant-based low-gloss varnish is strongly recommended. For increased durability consider acrylic varnish in dead flat or satin finish. |
Mounted on a panel or hung on a wall with wallpaper paste in entry ways, powder rooms, certain areas of the kitchen or pantry, anywhere that is typically dry but occasionally suffers splashes, spatter, scuffing, or steam. | Any base material is possible but traditional silk wallpaper carries more risk of damage in these environments. Casein and beeswax matte varnish is required at a minimum. Plant based varnish is recommended and acrylic varnish is strongly encouraged. |
Mounted on a panel or hung on a wall with wallpaper paste in regularly wet or steamy areas, such as bathrooms or kitchens. And areas with high-risk for abrasion, such as in mud rooms or next to moveable furniture. | The materials used for optimal finishing are not recommended for these areas, however accommodations can be made. It is important to recognize that panels in these areas should not be considered durable home furnishing. If you have your heart set on my designers but require a wipeable surface, a custom design can be digitally printed onto vinyl. The wipeable vinyl wallpaper is durable, installation is simpler, and it’s more affordable to replace if damaged. However, it does so at significant loss to the textural and aesthetic appeal of hand-painted silk.I’m developing a hand painted silk product that is thermally bonded and coated in acrylic varnish. If you’re interested in following the development of that semi-durable product please let me know. |
